United Peace International (UPI), a non-profit organization dedicated to creating a war-free and peaceful world through the establishment of a new global governance system transcending borders, marked a historic milestone by hosting the “SDGs Global Governance Summit” in Shibuya, Tokyo in November 2023. The event, held under the auspices of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, brought together over a thousand attendees and featured an illustrious lineup of guests, including former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and East Timor’s President José Ramos-Horta, along with six Nobel Peace Prize laureates.With a powerful sense of mission and unwavering determination towards building a rule for global peace and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the summit unfolded in a truly dramatic and passionately charged atmosphere. The “SDGs Global Governance Summit 2023” was held as a kickoff event for individuals worldwide to contemplate the rules of global peace in the face of shared challenges confronting humanity on a planetary scale. Against the backdrop of rapidly changing international dynamics, including war, conflict, terrorism, and climate change, the summit served as a platform for insights and concrete strategies towards achieving a sustainable society to be shared with a broad audience.This occasion marked the first-ever gathering of five Nobel Peace Prize laureates who serve as advisors to UPI, making it a truly unique and invaluable moment. Following the valuable outcomes of this event, we were able to adopt and publicly release the “TOKYO DECLARATION ON GLOBAL GOVERNANCE TO ACHIEVE WORLD PEACE” in collaboration with the Nobel Peace Prize laureates. Moving forward, UPI will continue to expand our circle of cooperation with conscious individuals around the world, including the Nobel Peace Prize laureates, to promote actions towards the realization of world peace.
